Getting started

What is Mint?

Mint is a Markdown editor and notebook for Mac. You write in Markdown and see the formatted note as you type — headings, tables, checklists, and diagrams render live instead of waiting for a preview pane.

When does Mint launch, and how do I get it?

Mint isn't released yet. Add your email to the waitlist on the home page and you'll get one message when the app is ready to download. No release date has been announced.

Which systems does Mint run on?

Mac only. There is no Windows, Linux, iPhone, or browser version today. Waitlist members hear first if that changes.

Do I need an account or a subscription?

No account and no sign-in — Mint opens and you write. Pricing hasn't been announced; it will be shared with the waitlist before launch.

Your files and your data

Where are my notes kept?

On your Mac, as plain .md files inside ordinary folders. Nothing is uploaded. You can open them in Finder, move them, back them up, or edit them in another editor at any time.

Can I use iCloud Drive or Google Drive?

Yes. Put a notebook inside an iCloud Drive or Google Drive folder and the sync runs through Finder. Mint doesn't operate its own sync service, so there's no proprietary format and no lock-in.

Does Mint collect usage data?

No. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting. The app makes no network calls with your content, and there's no account, so there's no usage profile to build.

Can the Mint team read my notes?

No. Your documents never leave your Mac, so we can't see them. If you write in about a problem, we'll ask you to paste the specific text or attach a screenshot — you decide what to share.

Is my writing used to train anything?

No. Nothing leaves your Mac, so nothing can be used for training. The AI-ready part is on your side: notes are plain Markdown, so you can paste them into Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini yourself.

Can you recover a note I lost?

We can't — we never hold a copy of your files. Because your notes are ordinary files on your Mac, your own backup is the way back: Time Machine, or the version history that iCloud Drive and Google Drive both keep. Run one of those for anything you can't afford to lose.

How do I get my email address deleted?

Email support@mintmarkdown.com and we'll remove it. The only personal data we hold is the email you gave the waitlist, and it's used just to send launch updates.

Features

Can Mint export my work?

Yes — one click to PDF, Word, ebook, or web page. Right-click a notebook and every note inside becomes a single document, with a cover page, a clickable table of contents, and continuous page numbering.

Does Mint support diagrams?

Twenty-five diagram types are built in: flowcharts, Gantt charts, mind maps, Kanban boards, ER diagrams, Sankey flows, treemaps, and more. Pick one from the menu and a working starter diagram appears in the page, rendered live.

How is Mint different from Notion or Obsidian?

Notion gives you databases and shared workspaces. Obsidian gives you a plugin ecosystem and a graph view. Mint gives you one Markdown file per note, notebooks and tabs for structure, and no account to maintain or plugins to install.

The fuller comparison is on the Notion and Obsidian alternative page.

Troubleshooting

How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?

Email support@mintmarkdown.com. Tell us what you were doing, what happened instead, your macOS version, and the Mint version from the app menu. A short screen recording or screenshot helps a lot when something looks wrong on screen.

Where can I read the privacy policy and terms?

Both are on the Privacy & Terms page.
